Two women, Sharon Auma and Nancy Atieno Obura, were arrested in Nyando, Kisumu County, following the discovery of a concealed pistol in their possession. The weapon, a Canik pistol with an empty magazine, was found during a search of a rented house belonging to Nancy Atieno Obura. The arrests were made in collaboration between the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) of the Nyanza Region and the DCI from Nyando. The arrests followed a report of a woman, Sharon Auma, who had posted a photograph of herself brandishing a pistol on her WhatsApp status, threatening any man who dared to leave her with severe consequences. Upon receiving the report, detectives swiftly apprehended Sharon Auma in Awasi town. During questioning, she led officers to the house where the pistol was recovered. A thorough search of the premises turned up the weapon, hidden in a basin under the bed, along with a fake motorcycle number plate bearing the number KMGG 805M. Both suspects were detained pending arraignment as detectives continue to pursue leads to apprehend any potential accomplices. The police are also investigating the source of the weapon and whether it has been used in any crimes in the area. Cases of armed robberies have been on the rise in the region, and the police are working to contain the trend. Meanwhile, in Mumias, Kakamega County, police are investigating a murder case where a mob attacked and killed an 18-year-old man, Ignatius Munyendo, on claims he was a thief. The body was found lying lifeless on a long wooden chair, covered with a blanket, with multiple stab wounds. The deceased was reportedly caught stealing farm produce when the owner raised an alarm, and her sons responded by attacking him with sharp objects. The police are investigating the incident and the rising trend of mob lynching in the area.
