Gospel artist Alex Nyachonga Apoko, professionally known as Ringtone, and Alfred Juma Ayora appeared before Milimani Law Courts on May 18, 2023, charged with three offenses: conspiracy to defraud, forgery, and perjury. The charges stemmed from an alleged scheme to acquire a 0.1908-hectare parcel of land in Karen, Nairobi, worth approximately Sh50 million, which belonged to Terresia Adhiambo Odhiambo. According to the court documents, Ringtone and Ayora are accused of conspiring to fraudulently acquire the land by falsely claiming adverse possession. The duo allegedly claimed to have occupied the land for over two decades, a claim that was unfounded. Moreover, on February 28, 2023, in Nairobi, the accused are alleged to have sworn a false affidavit before advocate S.M. Katonya, declaring long-term occupancy of the disputed property. This act was committed with full knowledge of its falsity. Both Ringtone and Ayora denied the charges and pleaded for lenient bail terms. Senior Principal Magistrate Dolphina Alego will make a ruling on their bail application on May 22, 2023. It is important to note that this is not the first time that Ringtone has been involved in such legal proceedings.
